Chair message
The Department of Organic Chemistry was established in the year 1911, one of the earliest Departments of the Institute. More than a century old now, the Department has a very vibrant and rich tradition to intense academic and basic research programmes. With organic chemistry as the main theme, the research activities of the Department continuously strive to embrace not only deeper insights into organic reactions, methodologies, target-driven syntheses of natural and un-natural molecules and products, but also traversing through interfacial areas of chemical, biological and materials significance, where organic chemistry principles have a lot to address and offer. Past couple of decades of expansion of research areas in the Department has laid a strong foundation to embark and expand horizons of organic chemistry, as applicable to chemical biology and materials chemistry.

Important Information for May 13-16, 2025 Ph.D. Interviews
- Interviews for the regular PhD admission will be held during May 13 – 16, 2025, at the Dept of Organic Chemistry, IISc., Bangalore, premises (Dept office A-110)
- Candidates are to appear for the interview on the date and time given in the interview call letter of the Institute
- Applicants appearing for interview through INSPIRE mode of entry must have a valid provisional INSPIRE offer for consideration of their application at level II of the selection, issued by DST at the time of interview
- Given the prevailing circumstances, especially in the Northern States of India, online interviews are permitted at this time. Candidates who are unable to travel due to prevailing circumstances are to write to the Department at office.oc@iisc.ac.in, so that the date (between 13-16th May), time (10 am-3:30 pm) and online link will be sent to them
