Awards and Fellowships

  • Professor Swaminathan Endowment Lecture, University of Madras, Chennai (2007)
  • Chemical Research Society of India medal (2007)
  • Diamond Jubilee Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (2008-2009)
  • Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (2009)
  • Rajib Goyal Prize (2011)
  • Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences, India (2011)

Major research programs of the group are focused in two areas of organic chemistry and synthesis, namely, carbohydrates and dendrimers.

In carbohydrates, on-going research pertains to:

  • Synthesis of natural and un-natural target sugar molecules;
  • Synthesis and studies of oligosaccharides and glycolipids;
  • Biochemical and biophysical studies of carbohydrate-protein interactions.

In the area of macromolecular dendrimers, the research activities are on:

  • Synthesis of poly(ether imine) and poly(alkyl aryl ether) dendrimers;
  • Organometallic catalysis using multivalent dendritic catalysts;
  • Grafting of dendrons on to one-dimensional polymers and physical studies.
