My group explores new chemistry and supramolecular chemistry using bile acids. These studies include the design of molecular receptors; design and properties of cationic, neutral and anionic analogues of bile acids. We also have a programme on the design of functional soft materials such as composite organic-inorganic hybrid materials. Recent work in this area has been in the development of luminescent hydrogels, and a novel ‘pro-sensitizer’ based sensing of enzymes, small molecules and selected drugs on a paper-based platform.
