Research Interests

The core theme of Prof. Prasad’s research is the total synthesis of complex natural products of therapeutic significance with an emphasis on development of asymmetric synthetic strategies/ methodologies en route to the natural products. Some of the recent investigations include the total synthesis of complex macrolactones such as palmerolides, arenicolides, complex indole alkaloids such as strychnine and triquinane natural products. Prof. Prasad’s group is also developing synthetic strategies utilizing chiral sulfinimines and their application in the synthesis of bio-active alkaloids. The group also has collaborative program on the bio-activity profile of natural products and analogues with a particular interest in p53 protein; the protein responsible for the control of many cellular processes.
